The show that many of us have been watching for many years has just ended. Stranger Things released there finale episode. Stranger Things also announces a new spin-off, but the fan base is too enraged at the ending to care about it. Theories have been flooding the internet about a possible fake ending, naming it Conformity Gate. The fans have been just grasping for straws such as a dial changing color, VHS’s in the background, and Sinclair breaking the 4th wall and staring at the camera and saying, “I don’t believe in coincidences anymore.”
I somewhat agree with this theory, but not fully. I don’t think there will be another episode in season 5 or in the original Stranger Things series, but I do believe Vecna will come back in a future spin-off eventually — not Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85.
The original series, for the most part, was absolutely fantastic besides the ending. The Duffer brothers were way too kind; they said it was supposed to be a “dark Christmas and an emotional New Year’s Eve,” hinting at multiple characters’ deaths in a series finale. Five characters died on screen, but two of the deaths are now being hinted as being alive. Netflix is currently selling a flashlight with a black light and if you shine it in the box it comes in says “Vecna Lives.” Eleven wasn’t confirmed dead –if anything, she was being hinted at as being alive with every character making a point to fully believe that she is still alive.
In an attempt to craft a fantastic series finale, the Duffer Brothers fail miserably, delivering an episode that tries to tug at our heartstrings for two hours straight, yet lacks coherence due to significant inconsistencies. How is Hopper not in jail for harboring El from the government? Why aren’t there any Demogorgons in the final battle? Why is Steve a baseball coach who played basketball? He knows nothing about baseball. These major inconsistencies made people wonder if this episode is the actual finale, which it unfortunately is.
People were coming up with absolutely insane theories about the finale, such as Will Byers being in Vecna’s head, since, in the episode, Vecna told him that he “will spy for him one last time.” In the epilogue, everyone in the graduation scene was holding their hands like Vecna does in many of their scenes. Each of the main characters has a person behind them who has the exact same type of glasses that Henry wears (Henry is Vecna’s human form). A lot of the characters also styled their hair like Henry’s. The fans are pointing all of this out and claiming it’s evidence to say that there is inside of Henry’s mind. Henry is controlling everything and has won, but I don’t think this is going to happen. It would be absolutely insane, make history, and be one of the best endings to a show of all time. What they gave us is what we got, and we aren’t going to get anything else, even if we want to.
They didn’t follow through with making a great series into an amazing series. They had a chance to stun the world with the ending, but they chickened out. Nobody died besides a couple of background characters, and maybe Eleven and maybe Vecna. This was a terrible ending, and it felt rushed. They had 5 years to film this, and this is what they came out with: absolute garbage. I wish there were an alternate ending so we wouldn’t have this horrendous ending to such a fantastic series.
