When seniors closed out their moments here at CHS, the school district hosts fun events like senior sunrise and sunset, senior ice cream and breakfast, and this year, the senior Splashin for seniors only.Underclassmen Megan Brown, Abby Peterson and Claire Vaquera reflect on this year’s events, already imagining what their final moments will be like in the upcoming years.
“[My favorite event was] definitely senior Splashin, because I just think it's gonna be so much fun to [eliminate] your classmates. I'm really excited for my senior year,” Peterson said.
For their last week, the graduating class brainstorms and puts together their last week’s events. But Vaquera is seeing the celebration come from not just the high school but also from the community here in Chelsea.
“I thought that the cutest senior event was giving out ice cream, because it was fun to see the community donate to our hardworking seniors, and I am excited for that to happen in our senior year,” Vaquera said.
While the underclassmen enjoy the recent addition to the senior-only events, they are also looking forward to the long-standing traditional events CHS has held almost every year.
“I know that they did the senior sunrise at the start [of the year], and I think they have their senior sunset [their last week] which is so cute,” Brown said.
Although Brown enjoys the sentimental event done this year that makes senior year extra special, she is also excited for the possibility of introducing a new senior-only event for her final year, with the intent of bringing the whole class together, which will create lasting memories
“If I were to make up with a new idea, it would be like a big campfire where everyone shows up. It's just like a big party, where everyone is just friends with each other,” Brown said.
With Brown’s idea, students are seeing throughout their high school experience that most of the seniors’ last events are often repeated year to year. Vaquera expresses a potential fix for this problem.
“I've seen a lot of similar events to last year, but I think it would be a good moment to get the whole entire class together and brainstorm some new ideas,” Vaquera said. “So that each year the events hosted for seniors only to celebrate them in unique [way for] each class.”
These events don’t have to be complex; they need to be a time where the seniors have a last moment to get together with their full class. It is a time to reminisce about their years at CHS and their relationships with the peers around them.
“You've spent so much time with all the people that are in your grade. You've grown up with them, and it's your final year with them. You get to be an adult now, and then you leave all the people that were there for your whole life that supported you, so it's just a big step,” Brown said.
