With AP exams coming to a close, many classes are transitioning to final projects or activities to keep students engaged in their work. This creates a mental break for the students, as well as taking away some stress as the school year comes to an end.
“I think it's a good way to keep the workload lighter than it has been, but you still have a final,” junior Zosia Bendena said.
In the classroom, there was a lot of stress and pressure before the exam happened, but some described the atmosphere as ‘relaxed’ or ‘calm’ after the test took place.
“Beforehand everyone's tense, you can tell it feels a lot more worrisome coming to class because you sit down and think, ‘well, what else do I have to do,’” sophomore Isabella Young said, “And then immediately after, it feels like a weight has been lifted.”
Most classes are using their time to do final projects, but not all are the same; some are doing book reports, some are doing movie reports, etc.
“Currently, we are watching movies in modern history with world history themes, such as imperialism, nationalism, etc,” Young said.
Rather than students studying and preparing for test day, they are more at ease with final projects.
“We have an assigned US history reading book that we get to choose, so we read the book over the course of the last few weeks, and then finally we're doing projects on it,” Bendena said.
Students often see the time after AP exams as a relaxing break, but most do not realize it is also a break for the teachers as well.
“AP teachers work really hard, so maybe students should remember to cut them a little slack,” junior Connor Dennis said.
