The women’s varsity basketball team beat rival Dexter Dreadnaughts 44-39 on Monday and is now 4-1.

Chelsea trailed Dexter 10-9 after the first quarter but came back by half time with a 23-19 lead.

The Bulldogs held onto the lead during the second half to beat the Dreadnaughts 44-39.

Chelsea Girls Basketball (@dawggirlsbball) celebrated on Twitter: “Great win tonight!! Every girl gave their all and our bench brought the ENERGY!”

Leila Wells (‘24) led the team in points with 13, followed by Megan McCalla (‘23) with 10 and Jessica Emert (‘21) adding 9.

“I think we played good as a team,” Megan McCalla said. “We worked together and communicated super well.”

The Bulldogs are set to play Tecumseh Thursday at Chelsea high school. To watch the game a subscription is needed to the NFHS network.

“Tecumseh is always decent so it will be a good game for us as a team,” Megan McCalla said. “Personally, I am always excited to play especially good teams.”
