This year Chelsea is going all out to celebrate the Halloween season. This means there are plenty of autumn-themed events planned for this October.

If you’re interested in participating in local contests, these events may be for you:

From Friday, October 29th to Saturday, October 30th, The Find is hosting a “Candy Corn Counting Contest” from 9 am to 7 pm.

Feel free to stop by the “Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume Contest” at Ugly Dog Distillery, noon on Halloween. The contest will be judging costumes on pets of all shapes and sizes. Freshman Sonja Schemahorn said that “lots of people put time and effort into their pet’s costume, and you can tell! It’s really cool”.

At the “Witch’s Hat Contest” taking place at La Maison, from October 29th to 30th, you can enter the running to win a $75 gift card! If you like crafts, this may be a good pick. Show up with a uniquely decorated witch hat to participate! Be ready to pull creativity out of the hat for this tough contest!

If something scary is more your speed, you may want to visit the Terrified Forest in Livingston County. Closing after Halloween weekend, this haunted house is very popular among CHS students. Caden Bubenhofer (‘25) said that the haunted house was “exciting” and “very memorable”.

When making an event memorable, photos are a must! Fun and photos for all ages are provided downtown this Halloween weekend with a spooky “Selfie BOOth” at the Copper Crate Mercantile from 11 am to 5 pm the 29th to the 31st.

Trunk or Treating (trick or treating out of cars) will commence in several places this year, including Cole’s Funeral Chapel (5:30 – 7:30 pm on the 31st), Chelsea Custom Shirts (3:00 – 5:00 pm on the 30th), and St. Mary’s Catholic Church (6:00 – 8:00 pm on the 29th). Trunk or treating is especially fun for little kids, so if you have younger siblings this would be a great choice!

If you are looking for some pumpkins to carve, try Moran’s, where you can get a pumpkin and prizes! Blast Corn Maze in Dexter is currently open and offering fall activities such as a corn maze, pumpkin picking, hayrides, a petting zoo, and even a corn cannon! Austin Copenhaver (‘24) says it “really is a blast!”.

The Dexter Cider Mill is also a crowd favorite, with lots of treats available. Norah Brooks (‘25) said that “although the line may be long, the wait is worth it!”. Everyone can agree, there’s nothing better than going home with a bag of donuts and a jug of fresh cider!
