The Chelsea High School field hockey team is entering into the final part of their season with playoffs that started Friday, October 22nd, and are moving onto the semifinals.

The team has been very successful in their division this season which team captain Makayla Kegerreis (‘22) attributes to how well their team works together on and off the field.

“We’ve been connecting on and off the field well which has helped us play more as a team and that has been a key part to our success,” Kegerreis said.

They’ve trained harder than ever this year to achieve their goals, and also added a new coach to their staff which has “benefited [them] greatly”.

“We are doing a lot more running training during our practices which keeps us competitive within our division,” Lia Spink (‘23) said. “The training also includes the mechanics of running which helps us prevent more injuries too.”

Due to their rigorous training, the team tied Dexter who are the back to back state champions of the district above Chelsea. They have even bigger goals for the team next year.

“It’s hard to see how everything will play out, but my goal for the team is to beat Dexter and win the regular season title next year,” Kegerreis said.

Their goal for this season however, is to win the playoffs which they believe they can accomplish.

“Our coaches determined that if we work hard and keep playing the way that we do, we can make it all the way and win playoffs,” Spink said.
