Michigan vs Michigan State is one of the most competitive and ferocious rivalries in College Sports. On Saturday, October 25th, the Michigan Wolverines took on the Michigan State Spartans in one of the most anticipated games of the year. During this game, the fans have an undoubtedly hatred towards each other, almost to the point of violence. Due to the competitive nature of this game, MSU fans were extremely angry with the outcome of the game, most of their anger towards the questionable officiating, while Michigan fans were delighted with the ending of that game.
“I think the officiating of the game was perfect,” sophomore Logan Holzhausen said.
Officiating has always been and will always be a debated topic in sports. This particular game has senior Max Collins in an uproar about the officiating of the Michigan vs MSU game.
“The refs were absolutely terrible, absolutely horrible. I couldn't believe it, as a fan watching that game. I was really disappointed that the league could even hire referees like that,” Collins said.
Although the officials during the game helped out the Michigan Wolverines, in Collins’ opinion. Collins acknowledged the lackluster performance of the Spartan offense played a part in their loss on Saturday.
“Aiden Chiles is terrible, right? Like he can throw it, sometimes he can run it, but he fumbles every other drive, and he throws an interception on the drives that he doesn't,” Collins said.
Holzhausen argues that even without the penalties and the controversial officiating, Michigan outclassed them in every way.
“We still won by like three scores, we had more passing yards and running yards than MSU,” Holzhausen said.
Collins added that the favored officiating not only affects the players and their experience but the fans' experience as well.
“It ruins the experience for the fans, some fans only get to go once, and this game is everything they have looked forward to,” Collins said.
