On November 4th, the Chelsea Boys Cross Country team placed first at the State Meet, with the girls team also doing outstanding and earning eighth place. Everyone ran their hardest and this was evident in the final times that the runners achieved, with many reaching personal records. One such runner was sophomore Will Scott, in which he broke seventeen minutes for the first time in his career.

Connor Gilbreath, one of our top male runners, further proved our team’s athleticism by personally earning 42nd place out of a whooping 245 runners and setting a PR. Reflecting on the meet, Gilbreath considered it to have an energy unlike any other meet he had seen. Also, recognizing the determination of himself and his fellow runners, Gilbreath mentioned how everyone ran hard to achieve the goals that they had set for themselves.

The very proud coach, Mr. Swager, described the event as a “fun, crazy atmosphere,” which surely was an opinion shared by all runners and coaches. And when asked about what practices were like leading up to the race, Swager claimed that the boys worked extremely hard and ran hundreds of miles over the course of several months to get ready. He also explained a bit about the plan for the boys going into the meet, stating, “We prefer to run our first mile in control and pass a ridiculous amount of people.” Swager recognized that the runners executed the plan perfectly and everyone would just have to keep doing what they’re doing to imitate these results in the future. This has been a great accomplishment for Swager and the team.
