Chelsea Robotics once again earned a spot at the World Championship Robotics Competition in Houston, competing against more than 500 of the top teams from around the world. There, they pushed their robot to the limit and showcased the dedication and hard work that carried them this far. Ultimately, it’s the team’s collaboration and commitment that have driven their success this season, turning challenges into triumphs.
“We’re going to a place where a bunch of like-minded individuals get together and just have a good time,” freshman Sagan Eberle said.
In the final stretch before the competition, the team worked hard to ensure every detail was dialed in. Amid the rising pressure, they kept spirits high with friendly bets and inside jokes.
“Our team made a bet that if we made it to Worlds, some of us would dye our hair blue and Sharpie our bald coach’s head,” Eberle said.
With their robot prepped, team morale high, and blue hair dye on standby, Chelsea Robotics made their way to Houston, eager to take on the best of the best.
“We were in eight divisions, and each one had 75 teams. In our division, we ranked 32nd. That’s about middle of the pack, given that we were also in the same division as the teams that won everything,” freshman Rachel Pawlowski said.
Seeing the global scale of the event and the diversity in competition made it even more meaningful.
“It was really cool to compete with teams from other countries. It was definitely different because it’s less of a question, ‘what city are you from,’ and more like ‘what country are you from,” Pawlowski said.
Chelsea robotics experience was well spent, and they left with fun memories and a deeper appreciation for the global impact of robotics.
“You start to realize that even though we’re all from different parts of the world, we’re solving the same problems and sometimes in ways you would never have thought of,” Pawlowski said.
