Many students at CHS, only know about the two “big” events that CHS student council hosts, Homecoming and Winter Carnival. Although these events are pertinent to boosting students’ morale, the most important event that the student council hosts every year is possibly their least recognized event: Mini-Victorthon.
“They have a Victorthon at the University of Michigan, which is a 24-hour dance event to raise money for Mott’s Children’s Hospital,” sophomore student council representative Alice Korner said. “They connect with other schools, so our school has a Mini-Victorthon. We raise money for the children at the hospital.”
This year, Mini Victorthon will take place on Friday, March 14th, running from 7:00-11:00 pm. To enter, students must pay $20, with all of the proceeds going directly towards therapies and funding for Mott’s Children’s Hospital. While the student council works hard to raise money, they also prioritize hosting a fun and engaging event for students.
“At the event, each section is broken into sections. We’re gonna have a welcome and music, pizza and games, ice cream, gym games, Just Dance, and then the last hour we’re gonna have Lilo and Stitch playing,” event chair junior Kate Mckenzie said. “But we’re also gonna have an open gym the whole time, so there is definitely something for everyone.”
Mini-Victorthon creates a long-lasting impact for those in need, in the Chelsea community and surrounding it. Offering an exciting opportunity for all CHS students to attend a fun event with friends while simultaneously supporting an amazing cause, the incentive to participate is clear.
“Last year we raised thousands and thousands of dollars, Chelsea is one of the biggest contributors,” Korner said. “All of the money goes to the children’s hospital to help kids in need, [Student council] doesn’t get a bit of it.”
