Having a job can be a really good experience, especially for teens getting ready for the real world and life after high school. Teens create tons of memories from their jobs, and while some are memorable in a good way, others are just ridiculous. Sometimes these absurd moments can even lead them to quit their jobs. A few teens recall those wildest reasons they’ve walked out of a job, and even though they sound ridiculous, they have no regrets.
“I showed up for my shift as usual and they had never enforced the stupid aprons,” senior Alaina James said. “And one day there was this new guy. He was a manager, and he just started screaming at me because I didn’t have my apron on. He told me not to come back without it. My dude was telling me this and wasn’t even wearing an apron. So then I just left and never went back, and then he got fired a week later.”
The story sounds ridiculous, but it turned out to be bad enough for the guy to get fired and her to quit. Once she found out the guy was fired, she gained enough courage to come back to her job and was given a lovely reward.
“When I went back, I got an extra dollar in pay and free tacos,” James said.
This is just one of the crazy stories that led to a student quitting her job. While James’s experience was a humorous story, senior Sadie Potter had a more serious experience—one that led to startling rumors and a situation she didn’t want to be part of.
“I work at Dunkin currently, but at my last job, The Dexter Pub, the boss made me quit,” Potter said. “I quit because the boss was extremely hot and cold, going from demanding to the nicest guy even in a matter of a few minutes. There were also rumors that he was on coke. I didn’t even put in my two weeks.”
This was a much more serious situation leading to her quitting on the spot with no notice. Potter now works at Dunkin and has some advice to people who are stuck in the same situation that she was in.
“My advice to people wanting to leave their jobs would be, if you don’t need it on your resume, don’t worry about the way you leave,” Potter said.
Having the courage to quit your job can be hard. Many people don’t know when to draw the line. But if you’re not enjoying the job that you do, it might be a sign that it’s time to move on.
“To all the people who have jobs, don’t put up with BS,” James said.
