With the Chelsea Varsity Hockey Team’s season coming near the end, we have seen many ups and downs with Gaylord being delayed and games being moved. But nothing has struck the team as hard as having their last two regular season games being called off and cancelled due to weather conditions which has greatly bummed out the team.
“It sucks, but it gives us more room to get prepared for our game tomorrow,” said senior Brennen Williams. “ I think the energy is all right, but it can be a lot better. I feel like just a lot of boys are sick and we just need to pick up the intensity a little bit.”
These games being cancelled may be a blessing in disguise. In Chelsea High School, we saw a mass sickness spreading throughout the school, and it has affected our Hockey team too. Many of the players have gotten sick and some are out from it. It’s hard to have your team get sick right before regionals, but the players are trying their hardest to stay healthy.
“It’s kind of a downer, because if we played we were scheduled to play Lumen Christi on Friday, and that would have given us a range to see where we were for our game against them tomorrow. But it’s all right. It gives the boys time to get better and feel better.” said Williams but sophomore Chase Porter believes “Being in the cold ice rink helps you not be sick”
Though the sickness has greatly affected the team’s playing ability the team’s morale has not dropped at all. The games being canceled has just allowed for them to recover and reset. The last two regular season games being cancelled has been greatly demoralizing, but the Varsity hockey team is still pushing strong.
“It’s been pretty good. The boys are all excited, like I said, there’s a lot of sickness going around, so it’s a little groggy, but you know, we’re looking pretty good” said Williams “We’ve had people out sick, that’s not great but we’ve been pushing through the practices like normal” said Porter
