With the Detroit Lions playoff loss against the Washington Commanders, there are a lot of factors leading fans to worry about the next season. With assistant coaches leaving and having many players’ contracts ending and people’s faith in the Lions disappearing, people are wondering if the Lions will still be good.
“I did not even consider the Lions losing to be a possibility,” senior Drew Weinberg said. “I kind of figured it would be one of the more impressive games of the lion’s season considering they were coming off of a bye week.”
With the Lions dominant regular season and tied for the best record in the NFL, they were rewarded with a first-round bye week in the playoffs. Most people consider that to be the best advantage given to sports teams knowing that you don’t have to play in the first round of the playoffs. That’s why most Lions fans, including Weinberg, considered the game to be an easy one.
“I personally did not keep up with the Lions as much as most people this season,” senior Konner Hewitt said. “But with the playoffs, I tend to start paying more attention to the team and so I really only got to pay attention to one game this season. It did not make a great impression.”
All things considered for the Lions, next season is not guaranteed to be as successful. With many key starters having their contracts ending and the Lions losing their two coordinators (Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson) and other coordinators many of the fans are starting to worry that the Super Bowl window has closed for the Detroit Lions.
“I am a little concerned for next season with everyone that the team is losing,” Weinberg said. “But I trust Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes, I know that they will find key replacements for the people leaving, and everyone else that has created the Lions to be the great team we know today.”
