On Friday, February 21st, the varsity boys basketball team will have their annual senior night. Saying goodbye can be hard for everyone, including the seniors themselves. But they’re looking forward to this long-awaited game against Dexter.
“Senior Night is basically an opportunity for all the people to see the seniors play, especially the ones that don’t play,” Gavin Busch (‘25) said. “And as one of the seniors that don’t play, I’m probably gonna play some of those 30 minutes in the game, so that should be fun.”
Even though their looking forward to the game, doesn’t mean that their gonna miss their teammates, and even the sport itself.
“I’m gonna miss being around my friends and just playing the sport,” Jimmy Sciackitano (‘25) said.
Being able to spend time with their friends while playing basketball is a huge part of it, and seniors say they’re going to miss being able to have those fun times with all of their friends. They also will miss being a part of a high school team like this.
“I’ll miss being a part of something bigger, and being able to play with some fun guys,” Busch said.
But the game is still on, and the seniors need to be ready to play for senior night. Handling the pressure of the game, and the excitement of senior night can be tough, but they persevere and just treat it like a normal game.
“To me, there’s not really a lot of pressure because I just think of it as if it were a fun thing,” Sciackitano said.
But it’s the end of an era. The seniors will be done playing basketball for high school soon, and there can be some nostalgia that comes with that.
“It’s sad,” Busch said. “I mean, all the people that I got to meet throughout it, it’s sad seeing it go, and it also signifies the mark where I move on with my life.”
