As Chelsea High School students flip through the freshly printed yearbook, reactions are mixed. While some enjoy reliving memories, others believe important moments were left out, sparking debate over potential changes to the yearbook process.
“We should bring back senior quotes because they give students the opportunity to show their personality and leave something for future students to look back on,” freshman Landry Cook said.
While some students support the return of senior quotes, others feel they aren’t a necessity. Some students think that it should be up to the senior class.
“I think they’re fun, but I’m not sure if they’re essential,” junior Abby Lokers said. “It’s up to the senior class, but I think it would be cool to look back on them.”
Beyond senior quotes, students have suggested using social media to offer a behind-the-scenes look at the yearbook’s development.
“I think it would be fun to see updates while the yearbook is being made or have parts of it highlighted on social media,” Cook said.
Some students feel the yearbook successfully captures school life, while others believe it lacks depth in certain areas.
“I enjoy everything in the yearbook right now,” Lokers said. “It’s great that it captures a variety of things happening around the school.”
Others argue that the focus leans too much on general school activities, leaving some experiences underrepresented.
“The yearbook focuses a lot on social events and school activities,” Lokers said. “I think this is because of the addition of so many new clubs and organizations.”
If given the opportunity, Lokers decided what her first thing to cover would be.
“If I had the chance to focus on something, I’d highlight international students and their experiences, as well as what it’s like to host one,” Lokers said.
As discussions continue, students remain divided on the future of the Chelsea High School yearbook. Whether through social media engagement, expanded content, or the return of senior quotes, the conversation leaves one question unanswered: What changes, if any, should be made?
