As I step into Dan’s Tavern, the warm aroma of freshly brewed coffee and buttery pancakes hits me like a cozy hug from the inside. Instantly, my mouth waters as the comforting smells wrap around me. The place is full of life—families gathered around wooden tables, sharing meals and stories, the air buzzing with laughter and love. It’s one of those rare spots where the atmosphere feels like home. But is the food as comforting as the ambiance? Spoiler alert: Absolutely.
Dan’s Tavern’s menu is a delightful mix of options. Formerly known as Chelsea Burger, it’s clear that burgers are their forte. The lunch menu boasts a variety of mouthwatering choices. On the other hand, their breakfast menu is a bit more straightforward, offering traditional options like eggs, omelets, pancakes, and waffles. The prices are incredibly reasonable too. For the three of us—my grandma, my sister, and myself—the total came to $41.70. I went with biscuits and gravy, my sister went with pancakes, and my grandma chose an omelet.
While I enjoyed the lunch offerings, I have to admit the breakfast didn’t quite hit the mark for me. My biscuits and gravy, while filling, left something to be desired in the flavor department. The gravy felt a little too bland, lacking the bold, savory punch I hoped for. The biscuits, however, were soft and flaky, they were the perfect textural balance to the dish. My sister’s pancakes were light and fluffy, but they could’ve used a bit more pizzazz. Maybe a drizzle of syrup or a sprinkle of fresh fruit would have turned them into something truly special. The one shining star of the breakfast was my grandma’s omelet. It was packed with flavor, and honestly, it made me wish I’d gone with that option too.
Where Dan’s Tavern really shines, though, is at lunch. Their burgers? Juicy, flavorful, and downright satisfying. Each bite bursts with the perfect balance of seasoning and fresh toppings that make you think, “This is what a burger should taste like.” On the side, crispy fries and fresh salads add to the indulgence. After the breakfast letdown, the lunch menu restored my faith in the place. While both menus are priced well, the lunch dishes definitely have a bit more excitement and flair.
All in all, Dan’s Tavern is a gem for a family brunch or a laid-back lunch with friends. While the breakfast options didn’t quite blow me away, the burgers more than made up for it. I can already see myself returning for another one of those delicious patties. If you’re after a casual, family-friendly spot to enjoy a meal and unwind, Dan’s Tavern is the place to be.
For me, Dan’s Tavern gets a 7/10.
