The KVHA Ravens girls hockey team is pushing its way through the season. The recent tournament, the ‘Sarah Backstrom Memorial Tournament’ has created an outlook for the players about what needs to be improved before the next games are played. From games to tournaments, the girls are on the right track to making it to states and regionals, relying on rigorous preparation to sharpen their skills along the way.
“We prepared by practicing a lot on Thursdays with the younger team,” senior Kassidy Grossman said. “We ended up scrimmaging them and getting ready for game-like situations.”
Different preparation techniques can improve both physical and logical performances in a game. Scrimmages increase the effectiveness of gameplay techniques while providing low-pressure situations for experimentation. Physically, the girls are working hard to stay healthy and put together.
“I prepared by having good hydration and stretching,” junior Addy O’Rourke said. “Also, staying focused and being a good communicator on the team.”
Addressing personal needs before a game can be incorporated into the Raven’s success. It can be a key factor for a developed performance on the ice. Social skills are also used in the rink to help prepare players.
“The centers and the goalies make sure they have a good mindset before a game,” O’Rourke said. “Being supportive and talkative plays a key role in our team’s success.”
