Chelsea hockey fights for the conference title every year, against Dexter, Jackson, and Adrian, as they all compete for the SEC title. This season the team came up just short of the title, getting second in the league, but this does not negate the fact that we still had many of the best players in the conference that were named to the All-SEC first team or honorable mentions list. In fact, the entire first line of the Varsity hockey team was named to one of the lists with Jacob Brant (‘26) and Lucas Milne (‘26) being named All-SEC honorable mentions, and Jacob Corcoran (‘26) being named to the All-SEC first team.
“It’s very motivating to know you’re one of the top 7 players in the SEC and gives me a lot of confidence going into the playoffs,” Corcoran said.
Playoffs start on February 21st, as Chelsea goes to take on Jackson Lumen Christi in the first round of districts, Led by this talented first line they go in with lots of confidence and their eyes set on victory. However, The team wouldn’t be here without their fair share of trials and challenges throughout the season to overcome.
“Losing to Dexter, probably to lose the SEC by 1 point, is not ideal, or the whole team being sick makes it hard,” Corcoran said.
These trials may be hard to overcome but they come with positive outcomes when they are worked through and can really boost team or player morale and give a lot of self-confidence for the remainder of the season.
“Feels good to be recognized and I Finally won something in high school,” Milne said.
The unselfish attitudes of these players really show why they got this honor, and why the team has been successful because of the leadership of these players. Their personal play stands out among the rest, as does their team play and leadership which are big reasons why these players are recognized.
“My mindset was to work hard and help the team win… its really positive all the time, excited I can help the team win,” Brant said.
They also continue to grow and get better which is another reason for their success. They are always striving to get better and focused on winning and the success of their team and that’s what makes them so good and the reason they have success.
“As a player, I think I have grown. I have a bigger role on the team now than last year after the seniors graduated,” Brant said.
