When it comes to being an athlete, there’s a very high chance you will take the bus to an away game. These bus rides are a great time for having fun with the team. But there are also some downsides to long rides.
“We like to listen to music and just have fun, or sometimes we’ll do homework and eat and stuff like that,” Lucia Martindale (‘27) said.
Having fun with the team on the bus is always great. But sometimes, there are some challenges to riding the bus. Nerves are a huge part of being an athlete, and sometimes long bus rides fuel them.
“The pregame nerves, and sometimes the bus ride is really long and the bus seats are uncomfortable,” Brooklyn Angel (‘26) said.
Bus rides can sometimes be fun, but the way back can be a completely different story. Usually, it’s late, athletes are hungry and ready to call it a night.
“On the bus ride home, I feel like you’re just tired, and you just want to go home sometimes,” Martindale said.
Even though long bus rides can be boring, it’s always easier to pass the time when with the team.
“The team energy is usually pretty great, it’s really loud and positive,” Martindale said.
But sometimes, athletes need to take the time on the bus to prepare themselves mentally for the game coming ahead.
“On the way there, it’s usually pretty quiet. Everybody’s trying to get in their zone. You got a little bit of chattering, mainly from the freshmen,” Angel said.
