As Chelsea High School enters a new year, so do new fashion trends. From leopard print jeans to camouflage sweatshirts, fashion has certainly evolved from the jorts and striped button-ups of 2023. Chelsea students take the time to share where they find new trends, share predictions for 2025 styles, and reflect on their 2024 fashion favorites – and flops.
“I would say I’m very up-to-date on fashion trends. I’m always on social media, and whenever I buy a new piece, I’m always looking up how to style it on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube,” freshman Madi McGregor said.
Students often gravitate towards social media to find the newest, most exciting fashion trends. Some apps and other means of influence have kept Chelsea High School students in the know.
“I mostly find trends online or through major fashion icons like Vogue and other magazines,” freshman Anastasia Moser said. “I see stuff on apps like Instagram, I don’t have TikTok, but I’ve heard a lot of people use it, and I use Pinterest a little bit too.”
Many students turn to the same apps for fashion inspiration, finding the most popular style to recreate on their own. Because of this, there is often overlap on what trends are worn, especially around CHS.
”The most popular fashion trend was probably wearing big clogs, not necessarily the Birkenstocks, but Uggs, those types of shoes,” Moser said. “I saw a lot of people wearing flared athletic yoga pants too.”
Although some clothing items are more popular than others, there is often a good reason for it. Whether it’s comfort, style, or ease, well-worn trends are the backbone of fashion. The popularity of athletic wear has recently been on the rise for exactly those reasons.
“Athletic stuff is comfortable and it can look cute at the same time, and that’s not something you can do with a lot of outfits,” McGregor said.
One of the most popular athletic wear brands is called Lululemon. It’s popular for its stylish, yet relaxed look, and striking colors that help it stand out from other brands.
“I definitely expect to see more vibrant colors because I feel like beige was a really big fashion trend that happened in 2024 and a lot of people were wearing it,” Moser said. “But I think this year, colors are going to be more vibrant. people are going to try to stand out more with coloring in 2025.”
Along with predicting brighter colors instead of the classic tans and nudes that have been seen throughout 2024 fashion, students mentioned 2025 transitioning instead to vintage style pieces as fashion has in years past.
“[2025 fashion] is gonna move towards 70s styles and more colorful, almost hippie-like pieces,” McGregor said. “Beige is really going out right now. People are getting bullied for wearing it. I definitely think 2025 fashion is going more towards those colorful flower patterns, bright reds, and rainbows.”
