School lunches at CHS have been a topic of conversation for as long as anyone can remember. The Chicken Bowl, for example, has been debated over the past couple of years as its popularity and quality have declined but its frequency has increased. While General Tsos has grown in popularity, it is only offered once every other week. Or seasonal lunches like the heart pizza on Valentine’s Day that students and staff alike look forward to because of its infrequency on the lunch menu.
However, apart from a debate over the frequency, we may also have differing views on the best school lunch at CHS. To put my opinion out there, I have made my ranking on the CHS school lunches in the form of one of our Bleu Print Best articles. This year in 2024 we had a lot of ups and downs going through the trends. This year has been filled with significant changes in pop culture and fashion trends. The pop culture world has been vastly influenced by the brain rot of our peers, brat summer, slang, and the concept of demure. Fashion has had some major comebacks, with the cheetah print and sambas making it back into the world, including platform uggs and camo.
The low points of the pop culture era of 2024 would definitely be the use of the phrase brat summer. It was an overwhelming sensation over the summer with the new album Charli XCX dropped. The lowest point would definitely be the effectiveness of brain rot throughout this year. It has successfully infected the halls of Chelsea with it becoming a part of the daily life of new-age teenagers.
One of the peaks of pop culture was the effectiveness of demure. It allowed people to convey pieces of their lives that they felt were ways to bring peacefulness to them. It showed little things that they found to be the right way to do things in their day-to-day lives. I think the top peak would have to be the new slang. I feel like this year there have been many different new phrases that are effective in new ways than before.
One of my personal downfalls of the new or resurfacing fashion trends would be the comeback of cheetah print. In my personal opinion, it has always been tacky. I will never choose to add any cheetah print into my closet to wear often but it can be effectively pulled off by other people. Another downfall in my eyes would be the Ugg platforms. Don’t get me wrong I love my Uggs but I feel like specifically the platforms are too tall and make them look bad. If the platforms were cut in half I feel they would look cute but they are just very in your face and I feel like it is too much.
One of my highlights in the world of fashion trends was the comeback of the Adidas sambas and gazelles. I think they are able to be styled in a way that fits the individual style well. They are also very functional since they can be dressed up or down to work with any event. Even with the platform gazelles they are formatted in a way even though they are chunky, they are not too much platform. Also, the new use of camo changes the way that camo is viewed perfectly in my opinion. It allows it not to seem like just the “hunters” wear but more of something that can be worn by anyone.
In the landscape of pop music, 2024 has been a whole year of remarkable releases. From genre-defying experiments to heartfelt ballads, these albums have left a mark on the industry of music.
- Brat by Charli XCX: Since the start of her career, Charli XCX has always been pushing the boundaries of pop, this album is a sonic journey that combines futuristic beats with raw, emotional lyrics while still keeping the energy throughout. Being released in early June, it was very quickly deemed the album of the summer, and people even started using the word ‘Brat’ as an adjective in their day-to-day life
- Hit Me Hard And Soft by Billie Eilish: This album is what most would defy as a masterclass. It transitions between haunting minimalistic tracks and powerful anthems, showcasing the versatility and depth of Ellish as an artist.
- Chromakpia by Tyler the Creator: Despite its name, this album is a vibrant electric mix of sounds and styles; blending hip hop, jazz, and soul all into one cohesive narrative, all while featuring multiple popular artists like Lola Young and Lil Wayne
- The Tortured Poets Department by Taylor Swift: With her eleventh studio album release, Swift continues to hold her place as one of the best lyrical storytellers with yet another masterpiece, TTPD delves into themes of love, loss, and self-discovery all wrapped into a grand 31 song album
- Short ‘n Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter: with an upbeat and groovy sound, Short and Sweet is a delightful and refreshing pop confection, the album is filled with catchy hooks, tunes, and lyrics making it an instant favorite amongst the fans
- Charm by Clario: a dreamy, introspective album that captures the essence of indie pop, the release of this album also brings more attention to some of her older songs people have rediscovered, giving her a good boost in the indie world of music.
- Eternal Sunshine by Ariana Grande: This album is full of radiant positive uplifting tunes; Grande’s vocal range has always been a huge part of her songs in her past and this one fits right in with the rest. It solidifies Ariana’s pop royalty and is filled with infectious melodies and empowering messages.
- Am I Okay? by Megan Mooroney: is another deeply personal and introspective album. The honest, raw lyrics resonate with listeners, and the country tunes of guitar and banjo make this a very powerful release.
As we continue to enjoy these outstanding albums, we continue to wonder what is in store for the years to come. Who will make a comeback in the industry and who will rise to fame?
