A sweet summer child out of his element
forced into a regiment
Cruel and unspoken agreements
snowflakes all indifferent
snowflakes all independent
Who is he if not dependent?
But he is the victim of his own transcendence
“Fall in”
“But not him”
Poppies grow in the glow of new fear and woe of approaching foes
No hearts beat for the lone fawn
But one day, he’ll save them from dawn
A poppy that fate placed upon his countenance
as red as holly berries
Shines like the golden star atop the evergreen
No time like the 25th to establish the golden mean
Circumstances bring a peace that is unforeseen
From Helter skelter
and an emotional welter
To harmonious tranquility
The world kept spinning
harmonies dwindling
The snowflakes remain aloofly indifferent
Poppies remain upon the black ashe of memory

Go Madi! This poem beautifully weaves the history of Christmas truce with the hope of Rudolph’s story in a poignant way. Stunning descriptions, as always!
