During Fall, excitement for all things spooky is in the air. From ghost stories to psychological thrillers, horror movies have a unique way of grabbing the audience’s attention with a creepy touch to keep it entertaining. Chelsea High School students wondered what other students liked about scary movies to leave them with a thrill.
“Horror movies are fairly entertaining, while also maintaining a good sense of fear and anticipation when watching I liked how much the thriller movie Jaws made me feel afraid and kept me more attentive to things that I wouldn’t have before watching, something like dangers of the ocean,” Darren Clem (‘28) said.
Horror movies have a good amount of genres making it so people can watch what they are comfortable with, getting a little scared, and maintaining a fun entertaining experience for the viewers. Some of the most popular genres are slasher’s, physiological, and boasts but there are many more out there if you like other things such as found footage, monster, witchcraft, and many more. But what they All have is an element of fun suspense while leaving you wondering what’s going to happen next.
”I like movies with ghosts, because I don’t believe in them, so they’re not as scary in real life, to me and that’s what makes it entertaining. I can watch scary movies. While still getting scared and staying entertained while also not having nightmares about it,” Abby Peterson (‘27) said.
Most CHS students can agree they enjoy having a slight idea of what’s going to happen so it keeps them on their toes but they also don’t get too freaked out. This helps them know what movie to pick and what genres they like. Although some people are different and like to be scared without being able to predict it.
“I think a lot of scary movies are predictable but mostly slashers and ghosts because they make it so the suspense builds up and that makes it predictable. But, I do like those more because I get to enjoy a jump scare but I did see it coming at the same time,” Vivian Parker (28) said.
In conclusion, Most horror movies have a predictable factor making them a lot more fun to watch but some don’t have that factor and for some CHS students those are harder to watch due to them being too scary. But every person has their own amount of thrill they can handle.
“My favorite part about scary movies is the thrill of holding my pee in when a jump scare comes on,” Irelynn Jbara (‘28) said.
