With the SAT right around the corner, in the spring, juniors express how they feel stress, pressure, and scared for the test. Juniors are planning out their next move for the SAT. The SAT is more than just a test, for some, instead it is more of a gateway for more opportunities making the pressure to do good even higher.
“I feel like it’s important for college and a lot of universities that I want to go to… it allows you to get a higher percentage of getting accepted into that college,” Maddox Blackman-Straub (26’) said.
Blackman-Straub explains how he believes getting a good score is important for future plans. To get the desired score you’re wanting practicing prior to the test will ensure a good outcome
“I think about a month to two months prior to the exam, I’m going to start studying kind of like the basics, so things that I need strengths in,” Blackman-Straub said. “So English and writing and reading, I’m probably going to be studying… because I understand math easier, and that’s something that comes more natural to me.”
Many will be studying for the SAT in order to be prepared for the big day. This day is going to be very important for it will determine the future of many juniors because the SAT is important for those who are wanting to get into the college of their choice
“I feel like they should even though you don’t need it, it’s such an important thing in our lives, and it’s an experience that you’re only going to get once,” Blackman-Straub said.
Despite the difficulty of the exam, many juniors are going into the exam room with confidence and determination.
“I feel like that it’s going to go pretty well, because I have big plans for the future, and I understand that the SAT is going to impact my college experience,” Chala Campbell (26’) said.
Juniors have some parts of their life already planned out and getting a good score is going to help them make these plans happen, so some studying is necessary for that achievable score.
“I might do some essay online, SAT prep classes through Washtenaw and so I can get a little bit of a head than other people… to pursue my educational prowess,” Campbell said.
The difficulty of trying to find time in their schedules during the winter for something that seems so far away. If the score that was wanted is not given a retake can be done if paid.
“If I get a bad score, then I have to retake it, and take a lot of time out of one of my other days where I could be doing something else to retake the SAT,” Campbell said.
Retaking the SAT can be beneficial for getting into the college of your dreams and setting up your life.
“It really can set you up for how life’s gonna be in the future, because if you get into a good college. Then you have open possibilities in the future,” Campbell said.
College is a huge thing for lots of people and the first step is getting that score on the SAT. It can be intimidating for some students.
“It’s scary, because I plan on going to college, which means I have to get a good score,” Colbie McCarthy (26’) said
Having to take a test that reflects what you’ve learned over the years can be quite scary, especially because you really have to take it seriously.
“You should really take it seriously and really devote your time to studying so that you can get the score that best reflects everything you’ve learned in your years of schooling,” Miles Dell (26’) said.
The SAT should be a reflection of what you’ve learned up to this moment in your life and not something that you quickly go through by answering randomly but using a word that has lots of a’s, b’s, c’s, and d’s.
“Do not do abracadabra… take it seriously,” Dell said.
