The rivalry between the University of Michigan and Michigan State University is one of the most passionate in the country,  there have been decades of competition in sports, academics, and campus. From the stands of the Big House in Ann Arbor and the Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, fans proudly represent their schools in every way possible. 

First of all, in my opinion, Michigan’s colors are way better than Michigan state’s colors. Michigan has bright colors that kind of stand out while Michigan state has darker colors. Michigan’s bright colors create a powerful look on Michigan and make us look confident and well-represented. However, Michigan State’s colors are spartan green which is a darker shade of green and white. Spartan green is the same color of as an abandoned green military helmet lying on the ground after a war.   Some may say it makes them look more powerful but the darker colors kind of give off a depressing vibe. Not only do  Michigan’s colors stand out to me but their mascot also does. It is a wolverine which in my opinion looks very powerful and fierce. Michigan State’s is a spartan soldier. While that is a good mascot I just don’t think that it stands out to me the most because of how mute Michigan State’s colors are.  

Secondly,  Michigan has a better campus. U of M’s campus is in Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor is a really popular city that has so many hidden gems that stand out so much like restaurants, parks, and art museums. U of M’s campus is so much more bright and lively because of the old buildings and pretty landscaping. MSU has a great campus as well but with it being in East Lansing it is completely overshadowed with U of M being in the great city of Ann Arbor. MSU’s campus is nice but it just doesn’t give the same vibe as Michigan’s campus because of the location. 

Last but not least U of M has had so much success in sports. They have gone to 12 championships and won so many also, including the Rose Bowl and the national championship last year. They are very dedicated and put in so much work when it comes to sports and it most definitely shows from the amount of titles they’ve received and the amount of games they have won and games that maybe they didn’t win but the score was close. Michigan State however is not as successful as Michigan when it comes to sports. Yes, they may have not won as many titles and games but they are also dedicated but they just don’t stand out as much due to the lack of things they have won. 

In conclusion, the University of Michigan stands out as the stronger of the two colleges in so many ways. With its winning athletic tradition, colors that stand out, powerful mascot,  and amazing campus in Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan offers a unique combination of greatness and spirit that’s very hard to match. While Michigan State has its own unique qualities, U-M’s legacy and energy make it the more memorable and make the University of Michigan better out of the two universities.
