After a very successful 6 seasons with the team, including a state title in 2021, head coach Josh Lucas stepped down. With the vacancy of the job, Noel Dean steps in as the head coach of the varsity football team. He has made some changes to the program, here are some of the player’s opinions on said changes.
“I like how coach Dean has tried to keep most of the traditions, but one thing that he changed is the post-burn,” sophomore Gibson Ichesco said. “We used to do it on Thursday and now we do it after the game on Saturday morning which I like.”
Ichesco is not the only one who feels Dean has been doing a good job. Many players like the changes Dean has made and think he is doing well at preserving the team’s traditions from prior years.
“I think we’ve done a great job at keeping everything very similar to last year and there wasn’t too much turnover,” senior Carson Freeman said.
While there haven’t been a lot of changes in culture, the players have said that there have been some changes to the offense. Specifically, about the way the offensive lineman has to block and how it’s now harder than it used to be.
“It’s definitely something that we all needed to adjust to, but now that we’ve got it up and running,” Freeman said. “I think it’s a great thing to run, and it’ll be very successful in the stretch of the season.”
Freeman thinks the offense has been challenging to learn but he has high hopes for this offense and thinks it could be very successful in the long run.
“It’s very challenging to learn,” Ichesco said. “At first it took a lot of time to overcome, but we are getting better as the season goes on.”
