As the new freshmen are still adjusting to CHS, the newest conflict for the grade is who and who did not make the Powderpuff team. Many of the freshmen have strong feelings about whether the teams were picked fairly or not, especially the ones who did not get selected.
“No, I don’t think it was fair, I think it should have been first come first serve not drawn out of a hat,” freshman Anna Irwin said.
Due to the lack of communication between students and the council, many people are misinterpreting the details of how the council chose players, resulting in confusion and some anger in not getting picked to play.
“For deciding who made the team and who didn’t, we had Mr. Orlandi pick randomized numbers for each player,” freshman Eden Borland said.
Although from the councils perspective the selection was one hundred percent fair, they wished they could have accepted everyone. But unfortunately there was just way too many people that applied.
“I really wish everyone had been able to make it, but unfortunately, it would take a lot of playing time from everyone and in the end, we decided we needed to make cuts,” Borland said. “I hope the people who didn’t have the opportunity to play this year are able to play in the following years to come.”
A large number of players is great to have on a team like this, it gives lots of opportunities for students to have fun and get equal playing time. The council worked hard to make this as equal as possible to avoid conflict, but in the end it was bound to happen.
“Randomizing worked best for this because it was made fair for everyone and gave us a perfect amount of players on the field and subs, plus coaches,” freshman Lucy Johnson said.
