After last season, the girls’ water polo team made the state tournament, and they are eager to continue climbing back to the tournament. This all started last weekend when they were able to make it out of the district tournament to advance to regionals. They work vigorously in the off-season to try and produce results that will lead to their success with the dynamics having to change through the season based on who is playing at that time.
“We expect more from each other and we have to push each other harder as the season goes on,” Junior Tallulah Gorby said.
Not only does the team have to be pushing each other to succeed throughout the upcoming season, but they also look forward to other seasons. They will be majorly impacted when the class of ‘25 leaves since their team is mainly composed of juniors.
“Once the juniors leave, it’s definitely going to be a challenge for a lot of the underclassmen and we’re going to have to work really hard to recruit new members for the team,” Gorby said.
These girls spend their entire season dedicated to the pool with early mornings and late-night practices. Once they are in the pool, they are ready to get after it and it develops throughout the season when they can actually see their hard work pay off.
“We start to focus on more specific teams and start to lock in and work a lot harder,” Gorby said. “As we get into the postseason, we start to be a lot more focused but also a lot more excited for what’s coming.”
Their accomplishments are not to be diminished because no matter how far they make it each season, They are ready to come back stronger and more confident for these tournaments next year.
“Our goal is definitely to make it as far as we can. I think we have a good chance at competing really well with teams we couldn’t last year,” Gorby said.
