In the world of music, there’s always bound to be juicy and intriguing drama that keeps the fans wanting more. From Kanye West and Taylor Swift, Nicki Manaj and Megan Thee Stallion, new beef has risen from the realm of rap with two popular artists, Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Both are very powerful artists and forces to be reckoned with in the music industry, both of them with over 60 million monthly listeners on spotify.
What began as subtle undercuts towards each other has now turned into a full-blown saga between the two, with multiple diss tracks being dropped within just hours of each other. As their respective careers began to grow, tensions began to simmer underneath the surface. Everything began when Drake released his 2023 album ‘For All The Dogs’ with a track called ‘First Person Shooter’ ft J Cole, with a line saying that J Cole, Kendrick, and himself were the supposed ‘Big 3’ in rap. Kendrick responded back to this in a song called ‘Like That’ featuring Metro Boomin and Future, which said “F the big 3, it’s just big me’ and that’s when things really began to hit the ceiling and the battle started going into full force.
J Cole stayed involved at first, responding back to Kendrick with a song nearly a month later; however, two days after that, during a show, he told fans that he’d decided to back out of it stating that the whole thing didn’t sit right with his spirit. Drake’s response to ‘Like That’ was in a song called “Push Ups’, taking jabs at Kendrick’s height and mentioning his collabs with artists like Maroon 5 and Taylor Swift. After that, he released a song with AI voices of different artists, like Snoop Dog and Tupac, saying they were waiting for Kendrick to respond, however that track eventually got removed from streaming platforms after Tupac’s team threatened to take legal action.
Kendrick then released a 6 minute long track called Euphoria, coming for Drake in multiple ways by listing things he hated about him. This back and forth has been going on for some time now, both coming hot for the other. With track after track, diss after diss, neither of them seem to be letting up anytime soon.
However fans were appalled by the most recent 5 minute long track dropped by Kendrick called ‘Not Like Us’ where Kendrick absolutely obliterated Drake. Kendrick came for him in multiple ways and called him out and accused him of being a pedophile with lyrics like “Certified Lover Boy? Certified pedophile” and “Tryna strike a chord and it’s probably A-Minor”. This seems to be the most popular track amongst fans at the moment, who are starting to look more into it, and canceling Drake more and more with every little detail they can find. With every piece of evidence that was found, people are starting to wonder if Drake will ever come back out from the hole that’s been dug for him.
