Sour or salty, crunchy or mushy, the pickles here at CHS can be very hit or miss in flavor, consistency, and availability. As someone who has C lunch most times, there are rarely any pickles left at the station, and if any are, they are usually mushy or not very good. For the pickles to be kept at maximum crisp and cold consistency, our lunch service needs to work on when they refill and change out the pickles
“They’re really good and have really good taste. I think that they’re fresher but when they refill them they aren’t as cold and are less crunchy,” freshman Peyton Skeans said. “I like the hamburger pickles better than the spears because even when they do refill the flat ones, they get colder faster.”
Most days the pickles are cut as chips and those usually at the end of lunch become soggy and don’t have a good crisp. However, some days the pickles’ shapes are changed into spears or halves. Freshman Grace Eckhout has been getting pickles almost every day and has become quite a pickle connoisseur.
“I like spears more than circles because I think they’re better because they’re more bites and are more crunchy than the circles,” Eckhout said. “I also think the circles taste more funny at the end of lunch because I have C lunch they’re more soggy and have a metal taste from being in the trays.”
Although the pickles are good there are better options to serve to students who enjoy pickles. People have found that they think they’re too vinegary and not dilly enough. Eckhout has also thought that a brand change would be good for the pickles to be more appealing to everyone.
“I think if they changed the brand to Vlasic dill pickles or something like them it would be better,” Eckhout said. “I also think that Clausen’s pickles are more like the schools but do taste better. I think they’re less vinegary and more dilly but have a good balance.”
