With the addition of new technology supplemented by CHS’s wrestling boosters, the new spotlight shines a ray of excitement and pride into every wrestler, knowing that this expensive investment was special but important, it allows our school to rally and show a deep affection for the sport.
“They [the wrestling boosters] really wanted to showcase wrestling events by having the spotlight… and it’s been really successful,” Jason Morris, Chelsea High’s dean of students and Assistant Athletic Director said.
As well as the spotlight, we have also had the addition of other forms of new tech to help benefit the well-being of our wrestlers, including the new sound system, fog machines, UV lights, and the MatBoss app. This new app has helped our wrestlers learn from their past oversights and to improve greatly.
“The primary purpose of it is to video the wrestlers, which helps a lot,” Ryan Ratliff, head of the Chelsea Athletic Boosters said, “We also get statistics for the entire team and every wrestler so you can rank and compare your wrestlers throughout the season with their wins and losses.”
The new UV lights were also something that was greatly needed. They now are there to disinfect the room and to lessen the chances of the spread of illnesses between athletes while competing. The addition of these special lights to the cleaning processes has greatly helped kill the bacteria in the room.
“I think spending the money and doing it right with lighting was well worth the time and investment, Morris said, “It can cut down on any kind of skin infections, and things like that. It’s just an extra layer of protection.”
The spotlight, fog machine, and sound system, have brought a different type of excitement to the sport. This new technology has helped the athletes get “pumped up” and inspired to compete. It even inspires younger generations of CHS athletes and wrestlers when they see that they can experience this and be a part of this great program in the future.
“The kids watching really like it, and obviously this gets the wrestlers excited as well,” Morris said.
