Have you ever thought about how hard it was to make a movie? Let alone being in high school and making movies. Junior Jack Orlandi has a passion for making movies in his free time; he uses his time, effort, and motivation to create them.
Everyone has different hobbies that they love and enjoy. Orlandi loves making and writing stories. He hopes one day to have a career in filmmaking and produce movies.
“I’ve just always loved film and story and plan on getting a job in that industry someday,” Orlandi said.
Making these movies takes lots of time and effort. The amount of work that goes into it all takes months, sometimes even years. It is very time consuming and takes lots of patience. He explains that people don’t understand that these things take up so much.
“It depends on how good I want my script to be,” Orlandi said. “It could take anywhere between 2 months and a year. This includes rewriting from page one at least once.”
The whole point of writing movies is all about the storytelling. That is Orlandi’s favorite part about the whole movie process—the storytelling aspect of it all. He loves to write scripts about things that just pop into his head. Movies can be about anything you want them to be, making them true to who you are.
“I just love storytelling,” Orlandi said. “I think it’s cool that this is something you don’t need money for; you don’t need to have all these crazy things; it’s just something that you can just pull from your head.”
He tends to do it all by himself, making it harder on him due to it being more time-consuming. Orlandi likes writing the scripts by himself because he thinks working with others will slow him down in the writing process. When it comes to short films, he does enjoy working with others because it does require a short film group.
“I think writing with a partner would slow me down,” Orlandi said. “However, the short film I’m working on is a big group project, and I plan on working with lots of collaborators in the future.”
