The football season has been extremely successful up to this point, but it hasn’t been a smooth path. When senior center Jack Fischer went down with an injury, somebody had to step up. Senior Drake Booker was pulled from the defensive line and moved to the offense, in a completely different position.
“Switching positions was weird at first and difficult,” said Booker. “It was hard to learn all the plays.”
As a senior, Booker was focused on becoming his best on the defensive line.
“I was working all summer to become the best that I could on defense, giving it all my attention,” said Booker. “I took it as a challenge when I had to switch positions.”
A good offensive line is crucial to winning a game. In a stellar win versus Dexter, the Bulldogs ran the ball 51 times. On the other side of the ball, you need a good defensive line to stop the run. Senior Mason Meads stepped up after an injury to fill a spot on the defensive line.
“Coming off of my hamstring injury, we didn’t have much depth on the defensive line,” said Meads, “so the coaches brought me in.”
Meads has seen a lot of success on the line this year after moving from being a safety, two positions not usually thought of at all similar.
“It was easy to switch positions with great coaches and teammates,” said Meads.
When you make it as far in the playoffs as Chelsea football has, it takes everybody doing what they can for the team to succeed.
“I just do whatever I can to help the team win,” said Booker.
It’s seniors like Booker and Meads doing all that they can that helped propel the team to the number one seed in the region and the opportunity to host three playoff games. This determination is part of what is known on the team as dog pride.
