On October 2nd, all of Chelsea High School walked into school, and to their surprise, all the class hallways were transformed. But something was surprising: the hallway decorations were more elaborate than last year’s freshmen.
When asked about how the decorating went last year, sophomore Libby Timberlake said, “I mean, it was God awful… We didn’t know what we were supposed to be doing.”
The freshman class last year didn’t do as well straight off the bat; there was a bit of a learning curve. However, this year’s freshmen hallway placed third during voting. This gave the freshmen confidence and reassurance that they had to have been doing something right.
Some may recall a video being shown to the freshmen showing how homecoming week works. Chris Orlandi explained that the video “really helped participation among freshmen voting in the Excellence Award.”
Orlandi believes if this video continues to be shown every year, the freshmen’s participation will only increase. And that this could have contributed to how informed the students were. “This year’s freshmen have done very, very well,” Orlandi said.
The freshmen class is in good spirits and excited. “We are really into school spirit,” freshman Ray Houle said. Thus making spirit days an easy point.
Even though by the end of the week the freshmen were in last place by quite a bit, it was all very fun, and they look forward to future spirit weeks.
