Choosing where he wanted to play football was an easy task once he fell in love with Ohio University. Seth Anstead, a senior at Chelsea High School, has become a leader not just on the field but off as well.
After helping lead his team to an undefeated season and state title, Anstead knew he was going places. Anstead started his recruiting process early on, earning his first collegiate offer from Eastern Michigan University during his sophomore year.
Anstead’s decision on where he wanted to take his talent ultimately came down to the atmosphere. He was able to narrow it down to two schools: Western Michigan University and Ohio University.
In the end, Anstead chose Ohio University. “It got me farther away from home so I could be on my own,” Anstead said. “I also just really love the coaching staff, and I enjoyed all the players when I was around them, so it’s just those things that made a really big impact on the decision for me.”
With the reasons of being on his own, a great atmosphere, and a coaching staff that was so interested in him, it was hard for Anstead to pick any of the other schools.
Even though Ohio is where Anstead ultimately committed, another school was also in the running to get the 3-star offensive lineman on their team. That school was Western Michigan University.
Up until Anstead had a visit to Ohio, his decision was a difficult one. Anstead and Western Michigan had a lot of mutual interest in each other, but in the end, that wasn’t enough.
Anstead loved the idea of being a Western Michigan Bronco, and with how much interest they showed in him, it’s safe to say that they were disappointed when they saw his decision.
It eventually boiled down to the atmosphere and coaching staff at Ohio for Anstead. “I’d say Western Michigan was pretty close, and their coaches were really trying to get me to go there,” Anstead said. “I just liked Ohio better, and they had a better campus and atmosphere, in my opinion. So overall, it was close for the Broncos, until it wasn’t.”
Now that Anstead has gotten his commitment out of the way, he is now able to focus on his senior season of Chelsea football. He loves Chelsea football more than anything, and that is part of the reason he chose Ohio and that they were similar in his eyes.
Instead, he compared the style of offense that the Bobcats run and the coaching staff. “We both run the same offensive zone and some countergame,” Anstead said. “There are just a lot of good people on their coaching staff, and all of the coaches are very invested in me and my success, just like the coaches here at Chelsea.”
With Anstead’s decision, he is now committed to Ohio University. But with him still here, leading our football team this year, there is no doubt the program is in great hands.
