The freshman on the boys soccer team, Jake Hillis, is one of the first freshmen to get on the Varsity team for Chelsea High School. He has been playing soccer from a very young age and is excited to be granted the opportunity to play at this level.
“I started playing soccer when I was around six years old,” Hillis said. “I used to not think it was the funnest thing in the world. My parents wanted me to get into some sort of sport, so they signed me up for soccer and I just kind of got the hang of it.”
Hillis has played soccer ever since and has grown to love it, and if his parents wouldn’t have signed him up he wouldn’t know what to do.
“I would have found it on my own,” Hillis said. “If I’m being honest because I just like the way it works, it’s one of the simplest sports in my opinion.”
Now after playing for so long, Hillis has gained phenomenal skill and this is proven by the fact that Hillis has been playing on the Varsity team for the past two months as a freshman. Now being on the varsity team is hard but being a freshman just adds to the amount of difficulty.
“You gotta get made fun of sometimes,” Hillis said. “You have to do a lot of stuff for the team like move the soccer goals if you’re gonna play small sided, or sometimes they don’t really listen to you, but you know, it’s kind of fun because I haven’t really had any chemistry with them yet, but over the years, it will get better.”
With the challenges he might face, Hillis doesn’t plan on giving up. He plans on taking his soccer career throughout highschool and into higher education.
“I plan on playing all four years of high school and maybe pursuing college soccer,” Hillis said.
People hope that they get to see his plan turn out well and we get to see him keep on playing and growing as a player. If he does stay on this path, he could become one of the best players Chelsea has seen.
