What started as just a useful alternative for an overpriced bottle has turned into a fun way for the CHS varsity volleyball team to bond with each other and make new memories. This season, the Chelsea varsity volleyball team has discovered a new way of bonding. Inspired by Sophomore Mia Kubuoshek’s water jug, they decided to start a creative activity to have team water jugs. “During our media, we started putting stuff on it like our practice shirt, a pair of sunglasses, and a chain,” senior Gabriella Basar said.
It all started when Kuboushek lost her water bottle. “After not having my water bottle, I bought a water jug at the gas station at the last minute,” Kubuoshek said. “I ended up bringing it to practice, then a tournament, and it kind of became our mascot.” This tradition of the jugs was not intentional but brought a new heritage to the team.
“I think sophomore Sasha Henricksen has a pretty good jug because she has lights on it and it turns the water purple,” Kuboushek said. “I like senior Cecilia Henricksen’s because hers has a very aggressive chain and some hazard tape. It’s pretty cool,” Basar said when asked who has the best water jug on the team.
Since the volleyball team had so much fun decorating the first water jug, as a team they decided to individually make their own on the bus ride to their first game. “We all went to the dollar store and bought a bunch of stickers, gems, and markers, and so we decorated them; now they all have names, and we bring them to every one of our games,” Kuboushek said.
The team thought this was a very fun and unique experience, so they decided to continue it next year. “It was a good team bonding experience,” Kubuoshek said. “We plan on this being an annual thing because this is a special group of people.”
