The squeaking of the Hydro Flask lid slowly turned into a big straw and handle. The Stanley Cup has taken over the internet and has slowly become a staple for many teens across the nation. The internet is something many young adults look to for inspiration and the accessibility of trends that their peers may be setting.
With fall coming upon us, new outfit ideas are just a click away using your favorite social media platform!
For freshman Nia King, clothing and shoe trends are influential on her personal style. “The mini uggs were trendy last year, and I bought them,” King said.
It is not only social media that impacts our clothing choices; it is also seeing other students in the hallway. When walking down the hallway, you may see new outfit ideas from brands that you otherwise might not have been exposed to. This could lead to you wanting to purchase it or asking your parents to get it for you.
“I wear flare leggings and blazers because I saw someone in my class wearing them, and I thought they were cute,” sophomore Taya Hall said.
Clothing isn’t the only thing trending at CHS. We all know the popular water bottle, the Stanley. One of the biggest and most popular water bottles all over social media. While it can hold a lot of water and fit perfectly in a car cup holder, is it everyone’s top choice?
Sophomore Colbie McCarthy says the reason she has one is because her sister has one and a few of her friends do as well. “They all told me how great it was, so I caved and bought one,” McCarthy said.
However, a lot of people feel that this water bottle is the definition of basic.
“I think that they’re stupid,” King said. “$45 for a water bottle is ridiculous.”
With new trends popping up all the time, it’s easy to forget about some of the older ones. The Stanley situation is very similar to what happened with Hydro Flasks, but not everyone has forgotten about them.
Sophomore Tess Matthews is Hydroflask over Stanley any day. “My entire family is a Hydro Flask user; those have been our water bottles for ages,” said Matthews. “The shape is generally nicer, and it makes it easier to carry.”
What’s interesting is that when asked about the impacts of these trends, sophomore McKenna Mahoney said, “Social media in general kind of just blends everyone into being all the same.”
Trends are things that are easily spread and followed. Everyone has likely followed at least one trend in their lifetime. It’s hard to choose whether to fit in or to stand out.
