Varsity girls basketball has had an outstanding start to their season. In their prior season, the team claimed the SEC and District Championships and the outlook for this season is looking good. Most recently, the team went head-to-head with the Portland Raiders and came out on top 64-27. With a 5-0 win streak, the team is hoping to ride this momentum and surpass their accomplishments from last year. The bar is set high, but they aim to make it to state competitions.

One of the major factors that will eventually help them achieve their goals is their consistent hard work in both practice and games.

“The team bond we have and the competitive nature of the team–and myself included–make it a special thing to be a part of,” Varsity girls basketball coach Tony Scheffler said.

One of Scheffler’s main goals for the team this season is to beat the team that ended their run for states.

“[Lansing Catholic] was a skilled, young team,” Scheffler said. “We got behind early and were never able to catch up.”

As the season moves on, the team aims to maintain their level of excellence in practices and games so they can once again get a shot at winning Regionals. Come cheer the basketball team on at their next game on Wednesday, December 21 where they will play the Arbor Prep Gators.
