The Chelsea Bulldogs were mercied by the Dexter Dreadnaughts on Friday, October 22. For the first time in twenty-six years, the Dreads beat the Bulldogs and broke their long-lasting losing streak. To put that in perspective, the last time the Dreads were victorious was in the 1996 football season.

Chelsea ended up losing 45-0, their biggest loss of the season, and the second week in a row where there was still a running clock. This is the Bulldog’s third loss in a row, where they previously lost to Tecumseh and Edwardsburg.

Dexter ran a lot of short screen passes, which created massive difficulties for the Bulldogs, resulting in big plays for the Dreads.

“Our safeties and corners couldn’t get off blocks, and we couldn’t run the ball very well or make the right reads on offense,” senior Braden Watson said.

Although it may not seem like it, there were some positives that the Bulldogs can take away from the game.

“That was the first game where I felt like we truly were physical and actually hit the opponent hard,” Watson said. “I think Dexter felt every hit we put on them.”

The Bulldogs are looking to go into their first district game against Charlotte with a bounce-back win, and advance in the state playoffs.

The Bulldogs open up the first round of districts this Friday with their 8-1 opponent Charlotte at Charlotte’s home field. The stakes are set high considering it’s a win-or-go-home game where neither team is ready for their season to be over just yet.
