Chelsea’s varsity football team suffered a tough loss this past Friday, coming up short against an extremely tough Edwardsburg team.

After an intense week of practice, coming off of an SEC loss, the Bulldogs were trying to re-engage.

Going into the game, the Bulldogs’ offense was solid. After watching the film the week prior, the team’s defense was familiar with their assignments and knew if they executed them correctly, they would come out on top.

“We knew exactly what we needed to do and how to stop them,” Gabe Anstead (‘23) said. “In the previous game we let a couple plays hurt us, we know what to fix now.”

Although they played hard, the Bulldogs’ strong offense couldn’t come out on top. They started strong with a beautiful touchdown but fell behind toward the end, resulting in a final score of 46-7.

“We have played this team in years past and lost due to errors,” Anstead said.

Despite the loss, a couple of key players made it through to score the Bulldog’s a point. JJ Turnbow (‘24) was a key asset to the Bulldogs’ offense during this game. Turnbow made great catches and scored Chelsea’s only touchdown.

Lucas Dawson (‘23) connected with JJ Turnbow (‘24) in the end zone, while Hunter Sciacktano (‘23) finished the playoff by kicking the extra point.

Going into next week’s rivalry game, the team is motivated to turn it around and remain victorious against Dexter, continuing their 26-year win streak.

“We have a chip on our shoulder now,” Anstead said. “We’re gonna use this as motivation and it will help us get better.”
