For the first time since 2013, Chelsea suffered a loss to Tecumseh’s football team. This season, Tecumseh has had an undefeated record of 6-0; Friday’s game knocked it up to 7-0.

In the first half, Chelsea’s top plays were made by Tyson Hill (‘24) with a 2-yard scoring run, Lucas Dawson (‘23), and Regan Plank (‘24). Dawson was able to connect a 64-yard pass to Plank, helping Chelsea take the lead in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Hill scored a touchdown seconds before the halftime break, leaving Tecumseh with a close 28-27 lead.

In the last half, Dawson once again connected a touchdown pass to Plank while Hunter Sciackitano (‘23) intercepted a pass in Chelsea’s endzone. Chelsea ended the third quarter 27-42 and unfortunately lost the game 34-50.

Although the team has been training hard since the start of the season, Tecumseh’s offense was incredibly overwhelming for them. Since then, the Chelsea Bulldogs have redoubled their efforts and are focused on improving their game.

“Our goal is to get better each and every day,” head coach Josh Lucas said. “We need to work on getting better at the little things. Doing the little things right will help us be successful.”

One of these little things that would be the key to success on any team is for individual athletes to commit to the team.

“It’s important for the team to be coachable and to do that, you have to be willing to sacrifice your own accolades for the betterment of the team,” Lucas said.

To truly commit to a team environment, the Chelsea football team eats meals together before a game as a way to de-stress and bond.

“We have a team meal before each and every game,” Lucas said.

Football is a point of pride for the Chelsea community. Hundreds of people show up to the games, decked out in blue and gold, and ready to cheer on their players. Even when Chelsea loses, fans are always looking forward to the next game.

Next up, Chelsea will face another tough game against Edwardsburg on Friday, October 14.
