On Wednesday, October 6, the Chelsea boys varsity tennis team took on Jackson Northwest, and Gull Lake in the MHSAA regional finals.

“Everybody won, we really dominated,” team member JP Chinavare (‘23) said. “We lost a maximum of three games per match, so it was one of the best meets all season.”

Holding the upper hand at 13-1, the Bulldogs dominated the event, resulting in one of the best performances they’ve had all year.

“I think we have a chance of having a couple people make it to the next round and maybe a chance of winning at least one flight in states,” Chinavare said. “That’d be a very good year for Chelsea tennis.”

Reflecting on how they’ve played during the season and regionals, it seems as though they have a good chance at making it even further. Winning states would be an incredible victory for Chelsea, as they have never won a state championship in tennis before. Obtaining this accomplishment would not only be a great way to end the season but a great way to end Chinavare’s high school tennis career.

“I don’t plan on playing on a college team but maybe club tennis or just with friends,” Chinavare said.

With their success at regionals adding yet another victory to the growing list, the Chelsea varsity boys tennis team will focus their efforts on working hard and ending the season with a bang.
