Chelsea Boys Waterpolo Season Update

Although the Chelsea boys’ water polo team has had a rather rough season with a 1-9 record so far, they are still working hard and looking forward to the rest of the season and postseason.

The Chelsea boys’ water polo team was supposed to compete against Dexter in the annual rivalry game this past Wednesday, September 28. However, the game was moved to October 19 at the Beach Middle School pool.

“I think the team needs to work on more communication and a better understanding of placement,” team member Owen Critchfield (‘23) said. “Along with learning our individual role in a given time during the game.”

Although Critchfield has only been playing water polo since last year, he has fallen in love with the sport and the people he plays it with.

“I play 2-D, which is the 2-meter defenders,” Critchfield said. “I’m essentially a center defender and quarterback.”

The bulldogs always play their hardest, which helps their team chemistry stay strong in the pool and out of it.

“Everyone has their good games and their bad games,” Critchfield said. “Our success really depends on how we are doing as a team and how to rank against our opponent.”

The Bulldog’s next game is Tuesday, October 4, versus Troy high school at 6 p.m., where the Bulldogs are hoping to bring home a win and improve their record to 2-9.

“I’m looking forward to playing teams that are similar to us in skill because that is what makes the games the most exciting,” Critchfield said.
