Shining a Spotlight on Theater Guild

The CHS Theater Guild works to put on a good show while educating its members on different aspects of a good theater performance.

The club meets/has rehearsal from 3-5:30pm at either the CHS auditorium or the WSEC auditorium. Currently, the club is working on its production of The 39 Steps, adapted by Patrick Barlow.

“The 39 steps is about a man who is accused of murder,” Jackson Busch (‘23) said. “He runs off to go hunt a German spy and it’s pretty ridiculous.”

Besides producing a play, the club works towards teaching its members the qualities of a good performance. Members learn different roles and aspects of theatre production, which includes everything from tech and stage, to costume design and make-up; at the end, it all comes together to create the final performance.

“Every day is a new lesson here,” Director Paige Conway said. “We may be making a show, but everything is peppered with educational moments about story arcs, structure, electronics, organizational tracking, and storytelling through things like fabric, color choice, and lighting.”

If you are interested in joining the club or the tech crew that works alongside the guild, you can currently join by sending an email to Paige Conway or Rachael Nardecchia.

“I can’t think of a reason not to join,” Conway said. “It’s a blast, and it offers a unique experience. The people who walk through our doors; they tend to stick around.”
