Freshman Lainey Kovick has been playing softball since she was six years old and cheering for Chelsea since seventh grade.

Kovick started her softball career playing for Chelsea Rec. In 5th and 6th grade she played for Michigan Classics, and since 7th grade she has been playing for Pinckney Pirates Fastpitch. This year she will join the team at CHS and continue to play with her travel team during the off-season.

“I plan on playing for Pinckney up until 18U,” Kovick said. “I’ve played about every position but I currently start in the left outfield”

She started playing for Pinckney because a friend recommended it to her. As predicted by her friend, she was a great fit to the team, and it has brought many opportunities for her to grow and improve.

Along with playing softball, Kovick decided to join the Chelsea Middle School cheer team and fell in love with it since. She was also a part of the first competitive cheer team for the middle school program.

“The environment that cheer puts me in feels like home, along with the energy of my teammates,” Kovick said. “Knowing that I was a part of the beginning of a program that will last a long time made a big impact.”

Kovick can not imagine her life without cheer and softball. Though she is only a freshman, Kovick thinks she would continue with cheer past her high school career.

“I think that I have a lot of potential considering where I am now and would love to continue to grow as an athlete,” Kovick said.
