The Chelsea High School Men’s Basketball Team has started off the season strong with a 4-1 record. The Bulldogs defeated Lumen Cristi, Stockbridge, Olivet, and Jackson while taking a lone loss from Pinckney. The team looks to defend and build upon their District Championship from a last season.

“The teams in our district this year aren’t as good as they were last year,” Senior Captain Ross Stofflet said.

It would certainly seem so. Last year, the district was composed of Adrian, Chelsea, Gabriel Richard, Milan, Onsted, and Tecumseh. This year, the district is composed of Adrian, Brooklyn Columbia Central, Chelsea, Hillsdale, Onsted, and Tecumseh. A notable drop from the Bulldog’s district is Milan, who has historically had strong sports teams. The Men’s Basketball Team will certainly have an easier district to maneuver themselves through during playoffs. However, it still won’t be that easy for the bulldogs.

“We’ve got a young team,” Stofflet remarked.

The Bulldogs have but five returning players from their district-winning team a year ago. The rest of the team is completely new to varsity level play. The Bulldogs know that individual and team growth throughout the season will be instrumental to their playoff run.

“We keep playing better each week,” Stofflet said.
