Just few weeks ago, the Chelsea Varsity Wrestling Team hosted their annual home tournament,  the Kargel Classic. This tournament was named after former head coach of the team, who still spends his free time coaching. The day involved five different teams that wrestled against the Chelsea boys: Onstead, Bay City Central, Allen Park, Melvindale, and Linden.

The Bulldogs took on Allen Park, resulting in a win for the bulldogs, 56 to 19. Significant wins from the senior class include pins by Rafe Reyes in the 285 weight class, Ethan Corkin-Howell in the 215 weight class, and Zachary Taylor in the 189 weight class. Thus, we had a great start to the tournament. After a few losses, Chelsea had a four-man pin streak in the 125, 130, 135, and 140 weight classes by wrestlers Shane Nold, Nick Matusko, Corbyn Munson, and Mason Trinkle respectively. Senior Josh Dosey finished the duel with a final pin in the 160 weight class, sealing the win for the Bulldogs.

The most nerve-wracking match for the Bulldogs was their final event of the day against Linden. Starting with the 285 weight class, Rafe Reyes got a void for the Bulldogs, scoring six points for the wrestlers without breaking a sweat. Securing wins for the team were Shane Nold, Nick Matusko, Corbyn Munson, and Josh Dosey. We also had a final win by sophomore, Josiah Fitch, who pinned his opponent, just tying us up with Linden, 36 to 36. However, the Bulldogs couldn’t claim gold, as Linden was determined the winner of the match based on Criteria E–meaning the most points scored by pins. it was a great day for our Bulldog Wrestlers. Congrats boys!
