The Chelsea football team is turning heads with new uniforms this season, giving them 18 different uniform combinations to wear on game days. Including three helmet skins, two jerseys, and three different pants. While the team is excited about new uniforms, they still take pride in the program's traditional blue and gold.
Senior Sam Dawes said he thinks the investment for new uniforms is well worth it. The Chelsea football team is using money that the team had from the Bulldog Card fundraiser. This is a card for discounts at different restaurants in Chelsea.
Dawes said, “I think it’s worth it because we’ve always had the money— it’s good to use it, especially as a senior, we get to have these for our last year,” said Dawes.
Chelsea football is best known for their gold helmets. Chelsea has had the gold helmets for decades. A symbol of tradition. Sam Dawes doesn’t feel that they take away that tradition.
Sam Dawes doesn’t think the new options change tradition. “I mean, we've always had gold, but it's still cool to change it up. I mean, we're still Chelsea Bulldogs. It's not changing anything about that.”
Besides the appearances, Dawes said the new uniforms have impacted how the team plays.
“I think it's actually boosted our confidence, because I think a lot of us like the new looks that we have. I think our confidence is higher,” said Dawes.
When it comes to variety, Dawes enjoys being able to switch the uniforms up week to week throughout the season.
“I like when we switch it up, because it's cool to have new looks instead of what we've always had, we’re able to try new things,” said Dawes.
Senior Owen Picklesimer enjoys the fresh looks of the new combinations, he still appreciates the tradition of Chelsea's classic gear.
“I like the white helmets, I think it is a nice change in the whole uniform — it would be nice to see the gold helmets back again,” Picklesimer said.
