As Student Council holds more meetings, students continue to talk about one specific topic: Homecoming. Despite other student events like football games and other plans being discussed, it has everyone talking, both in meetings and the hallways.
“So, you get to put your favorite two committees and I'm in the dance Committee. Freshman Secretary Elise Seyferth said. “Which is where we set up and take down for the dance.”
Students in student council, like Seyfreth, are all very involved in how homecoming will be planned with detail and thought, making it fun for all the students who attend.
“Everyone's kind of doing stuff like each committee,” Seyferth said. “So there's, Bulldog Bowl, the lunch games, the pep rally, the parade. There's a bunch of different stuff. So everyone is definitely doing a lot of work. It's not really all one person. It's very spread out.”
There is a lot of hard work and detail that the committees are putting into the planning to ensure that nothing goes wrong and to make the whole week enjoyable.
“We really need help decorating the hallway. It's a huge one. A lot of us can't be there during events because it's on a Saturday,” Seyferth said. “It's a competition, so we need to win. And just like doing the spirit days gets us points for our grade. So being really involved in the spirit days and the lunch games gets us points. So really, in the pep rally, you want to cheer and be really loud.”
The student body plays an important role in making homecoming fun, showing school spirit, and helping their grade connect and work together, all while competing against the other grades. The participation of students not only ensures collaboration, but it also ensures memories that students will remember after homecoming is over.
“All of the seniors have been trying to get this theme for like, three years. They were very excited,” Seyferth said. “They were very adamant that they wanted this. And it makes it kind of special, because they've been trying to get it for so many years. They all have all these ideas, and everyone's just kind of invested in it.”
This year's homecoming is expected to be very special for different reasons. Not only is the theme of mobile games very interesting by itself, but Seyferth brought up that the seniors in the student council have wanted this theme for a long time. Ending their senior year with their desired choice.
“So I like our theme, although most people don't play it because it's Candy Crush. The colors and how you're actually going to decorate is a lot more fun.” Seyferth said.
